What is your educational background?

I earned my law degree and MBA from Duke University in 2002, one of the top programs for each discipline. At Duke, I was a co-founder of the , a law journal that focuses on how technology and the internet impact the law, and also served as the initial managing editor. I also earned degrees summa cum laude in Finance and Psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where I graduated near the top of my undergraduate class. So now, after all that schooling, I can analyze you, your stock portfolio and your legal problems. Just kidding. Of course, the most valuable education I have received has come from the eight years I've spent listening to clients and thinking about what they want from a lawyer.

What jurisdictions do you practice in?

I am licensed to practice law in both Washington and New York. My practice is based in Seattle in the heart of the city, with an office near the courthouse in the historic Pioneer Square district.

What practice areas do you focus on?

My practice is focused on trademark law, technology law, and virtual general counsel services. My clients are typically growing businesses and entrepreneurs. I also work with many artists and creative businesses. While many of my clients are located near Seattle, I work with clients across the country and even internationally with regard to intellectual property issues.

Why did you choose to focus your law practice on entrepreneurs and growing businesses?

I have always had a passion for small business and ideas. I am an entrepreneur in addition to being an attorney, and I grew up in a family business environment.

Unfortunately, smaller businesses are woefully under-served by the legal community; our industry is disproportionately structured to cater to the needs of "deep pockets", and many talented lawyers believe that it doesn't make economic sense to serve small businesses. Recognizing this fact, I have stepped in to fill this niche with top-quality legal representation to help businesses grow to reach their potential.

What is unique about your approach to practicing law?

My practice is built on the twin foundations of a top-notch education and a wealth of business and entrepreneurial experience. I believe I bring a lot more creativity and sound judgment to business issues than most attorneys.

I established this practice because I have a passion for solving business problems, and because I relate really well to entrepreneurs and business owners. In fact, I wouldn't be interested in practicing law if I couldn't work with these types of clients.

What is unique about your approach to client service?

The legal profession is often maligned for insensitivity to client needs. Customer service is really not that complicated, and I seem to be one of the few lawyers who gets that! As a service provider, I am very focused on the "service" aspect of what I do. Thus, I return phone calls promptly, spend a lot of time thinking about how better processes and technology can use your dollars more efficiently – stuff like that. I put forth extra effort to make you feel valued as a client.

Why should I hire you?

In short, because I am one of few accessible attorneys with the ability to consistently deliver practical, insightful solutions to intellectual property issues.

So now that you've blown me away with rhetoric, how can you prove how much value you can add to my business?

Yes, preachy rhetoric only goes so far. I am very happy that my approach resonates with you, and I look forward to working with you to develop a mutually beneficial, value-for-value relationship. I am not hard to find, so seek me out!
